PUBLIC REACTION

Prishtina, February 9, 2024. The children’s group “Respect Our Rights” – ROR expresses concern about the alleged case of rape of a student in a high school in Suharekë/Therandë. It is deeply disturbing and a serious crime against the rights of the child, that such violent events take place in an educational institution. The school should be a safe and protected space for all students without distinction, not turns into an unsafe and unpleasant place for them. These cases that violate every moral principle, right of the child and professional norm are terrifying for the state of security in Kosovo schools. We call for an immediate and detailed investigation of this suspected crime, as it is imperative that every victim potential be protected and the perpetrators held accountable. We demand that educational authorities, including the Ministry of Education, the Municipal Directorate of Education, the school and others, take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all students in this environment educational. Furthermore, it is vital that the Ministry of Education prioritizes student safety, implements the Child Protection Policy and takes measures to ensure that such incidents never happen again.
